Hi all,
Scroll down to see our schedule through the rest of 2005.
Please note that our November 19th dance will take place, not at our regular
location, but at Madison Hall in Morrisville. It is a special dance that is
being co-sponsored by us and the Hamilton Friends Meeting.
Two of our dances in December will also be held at a different alternate
location: Johnston's Ballybay, which is at 550 Richmond Avenue on the west
side of Syracuse. You can find directions and a map at the website of our
swing dance friends: <http://syrswingdance.org/ssdsdir6.html>.
Here are a few highlights from the schedule below:
- We are offering a "Tribute to Ted" dance on November 11th. This dance
takes place during a week in which many dances worldwide are recognizing the
contributions of Ted Sannella on the 10th anniversary of his death. David
Smukler has planned a rich program of dances by this very influential
caller/choreographer. Ted's creativity was responsible for such things as
triplets, the use of heys in contras (yes, he was the first to do this), the
reinvention of other English and old-time figures, and the recycling of many
moves from the contra chestnuts.
- Don't miss the special dance that we are co-sponsoring on November 19th.
The inimitable David Kaynor will be calling with music by a hot trio from
the southern tier of NY State: Tunescape. Madison Hall will also work its
magic.
- An ursa major holiday season event as the ever-popular Great Bear Trio
will rock the walls of Johnston's Ballybay on December 17th. Joyce Rossbach
will be calling.
- New Years Eve falls conveniently on a Saturday this year. We'll be dancing
that night to Kitchen Chair and David Smukler. Festive attire is encouraged,
but by no means required. The timing of the evening is different than usual
in honor of the occasion. Goes like this:
6:30- potluck supper for as many as will
8:00- couple dancing (waltzes, schottisches, polkas, hambos, and whatever
else the band cooks up)
9:00- contra dance begins and continues at least until midnight
Remember, you can always know what we're planning (or at least as much as we
know) by going to <www.syracusecountrydancers.org>.
