Here's the latest update regarding our contra and English dance schedule. If
you'd like to cut to the chase, scroll down to the names and dates at the
bottom of this message.
We think that ALL of our dances are really fun (that's why we do 'em!).
Still, there are two extra special events coming up that we'd like to tell
you about.
First there's our ninth annual fall weekend of dance, the Phylla Mae Fall
Fest. As in past years we offer superb talent, a varied but relaxed
schedule, a blend of visiting and local performers, and organizers who go
the extra mile to try to make you happy. This year the location has moved to
the conveniently situated Pastime Atheletic Club, at the intersection of
Court and N. Salina streets in Syracuse, NY. You can find directions,
schedule details, registration info and more at
<www.syracusecountrydancers.org/PhyllaMaeFallFest.html> (By the way, since
you get these notes, you can be in the know.... Folks often mispronounce
"Phylla Mae," making it sound like "Fie-la May"--as in "phylum?"--but really
it is "Fill-a May," as in "fill up your heart with joy.")
Our other special fall event is a dance that we are co-sponsoring with the
Morrisville Dance. We are thrilled to host a most amazing accordionist,
Karen Tweed, who is coming as a guest of our friends in the band, Glenrose.
As well as playing for the evening dance, Karen, an extraordinary musician
and teacher, will be offering a musicians workshop in the afternoon. You can
find Karen's biography at <www.karentweed.dk/PAGES/BIOGRAPHY/BIOGRAPHY.htm>.
The workshop, potluck supper, and the dance will take place at Madison Hall
in Morrisville, NY. Stay tuned for details.
Usually our dances are at United Church of Fayetteville. Different locations
are marked with an asterisk (*) for the PMFF, the dance with Glenrose and
Karen Tweed, and our dance on October 13. Some of our dances happen on
Saturdays, some on Fridays. We offer English Country dancing on the first
weekend of every month, and contras, etc. on other nights. For further info,
go to <www.syracusecountrydancers.org>.
