Hi all,

IT'S SPRING! HOORAY!!

And we have a wonderful schedule to share (see below) with many special
events, the first of which is THIS SATURDAY!

For the past several years we have been involved in a unique callers
gathering. Each year the group tackles a new theme, exploring one particular
strand of American dances. The first such gathering was an attempt to dance
through all 41 of Ted Sannella's triplets. Other gatherings have focused on
chestnuts, dances in odd formations, and family-friendly dances. This year
we are honoring Gene Hubert, a contra dance composer whose style of dance
writing was largely responsible for the kinds of dances most often done
today at dances like ours. Gene passed away last spring and it seemed
appropriate to honor his amazing contributions to what we love to do.

So, during the day this Saturday, a group of excited callers will be dancing
and discussing Gene's "opus." Then at 6:15 they will move to our regular
hall in Fayetteville for a potluck supper open to all. The calling at the
8:00 evening dance will be shared by all these workshop participants.
Fabulous music will be provided by Contranella. Here's the day in a
nutshell...

1) 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. CALLERS GATHERING. (We still need a few volunteer
dancers to be guinea pigs for the callers. You could get a free day of
dancing and listening to callers natter on excitedly. Call Joyce at
315-472-0576 if interested.)

2) 6:15. POTLUCK SUPPER. Come one, come all!

3) 8:00. THE ALL GENE HUBERT DANCE.

Other exciting events in the near future include a visit by the inimitable
"Mother" Mary Jones, our annual CONTRA PROM (this year's band will be Giant
Robot Dance), and another multiple caller dance on May 5th, an English
country dance planned especially for experienced dancers.
