[syr-contra-news] Saturday Chestnuts Workshop

Come one, come all!

This Saturday September 15 Syracuse Country Dancers offers a special
workshop from 4:30-6 in the afternoon, open to all, featuring several
classic contra dances, the kind that are often called "chestnuts." The
caller, David Smukler, and two superb musicians, George Wilson and Tom
Hodgson, are primed to show you exactly why these chestnuts are so hot. The
workshop will be followed by a potluck dinner and exciting evening dance
(with a mix of dances--not just chestnuts) presented by David, George and
Tom. Workshop price is $4, evening dance is $7, or both for $10.

To top it all off, the event includes a fun/draising silent auction to
support this year's Phylla Mae Fall Fest (see
<http://www.syracusecountrydancers.org/PhyllaMaeFallFest.html>). You can
expect great fun and silliness from the auction, as well as interesting and
sometimes unusual items. Bidding starts at 4:30 and runs through the break
in the evening dance, which will end somewhere between 9:45 and 10:00. It's
not too late to donate items, which can be dance-related or not. Not sure
what to offer? Consider donating services as well as material objects.
