Hi all,
If you come to our dance this Friday, we suggest arriving by 8 o'clock for a
special treat. Carmen Giunta, this week's caller, is also one of the leaders
for the weekly international dancing that takes place at the First
Universalist Church on Thursday evenings. He plans to start the evening on
Friday with a little taste of international dancing -- about 30 minutes'
worth -- before going back to contras. Come try out something new!
Alternatively, you could check out the Hands Four Dancers event this weekend
with Nils Fredland and Magic Foot. See <http://www.hands4dancers.org/> for
more details.
There's lots of great dancing around Syracuse you might want to know about.
On Thursdays, if you don't go to the international dance, you might want to
check out the swing dance. More info at <http://syrswingdance.org/>. If you
are interested in Morris, one of the local teams would love to invite you to
one of their practices to find out what it is all about. Go to the links
page on our website to hook up with Thornden Morris or the Bassett Street
Hounds.
Our friends from Oswego also would love to welcome you to their dances at
the historic McCrobie building, 41 Lake Street in Oswego, right on the lake.
Their next dance with Bob Nicholson and the Great Bear Trio is on Friday
June 6, 7:30 - 10:30. Admission is $6 ($15 family maximum). For more
information call (315) 312-2317.
And there is always a contra dance on Thursdays in Rochester and Fridays in
Ithaca. You can get to their websites from ours to learn more.
Lastly, it's not too soon to save October 17-18, the date of our 11th annual
Phylla Mae Fall Fest! Our featured caller this fall will be Nil Fredland,
and the bands will be Firetruck (with Ethan Hazard-Watkins, Anna Patton and
Karen Axelrod), and Contranella (Megan Beller, Charley Beller and John
Wobus). We'll follow up with more info soon. For now, just circle that day
on the calendar. You won't want to miss the fun!
As always, you can go to <http://www.syracusecountrydancers.org> to learn
about our dances.
